How do I become a Christian

How do I become a Christian?

That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. (Romans 10:9-10, NIV)

Being a Christian is having a relationship with Christ. Why must we have a relationship with Christ to get into heaven? Because sin cannot be in the same place as God. When man chose to sin in the Garden of Eden, he became sinful and could not exist in the same place as God. Everyone, since Adam & Eve, was born sinful, and into a sinful world. (Romans 3:23). It is like a void that separates man from God.

Man is on one side and God is on the other.

Man tries to reach God by performing "Good" tasks; attending church regularly, being kind to others, obeying the 10 Commandments, and other ways. However, by his own efforts, he will never reach God. (Ephesians 2:8-9).

Because we are sinners, we deserve death! (Romans 6:23)

God is Holy and Just and can not exist in the same place as sin. Therefore, we can not exist with God. But he loved us enough to provide a way for our sins to be forgiven, so once again, we could be with Him in His presence.

God sent His son, Jesus Christ, who lived a sinless life while here on earth to be the Way to Him (John 14:6). Jesus was temped, but He NEVER gave into the temptation. He was killed on a cross. There he took our place. It should have been us that died for our sins, not someone who was sinless.

But Jesus did not stop there. He arose from the grave 3 days later, thereby defeating death and bridging the "void" between man and God. (1 Peter 3:18, Romans 4:15).

God gave us a choice from the start (Adam & Eve), and He still gives us the choice today.

The Bible says in John 1:12,13 "Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God--children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God."

Our choice is simple; to repent or not to repent.

Repentance is not just feeling sorry for our sin, but it is turning to God through Jesus and away from our sin. It is like making a U-Turn on a road.

When you make a U-Turn, you completely change from the direction you were going and head in the opposite direction. Away from where you were headed.

If we chose to repent, then we must surrender to Jesus as Lord. Surrending is not just saying we will give our lives to Jesus, but it means giving control of our lives to Jesus. It is like trusting your life to the pilot that is flying an airplane that you are riding in.

If you would like to accept Jesus, all you have to do is say a simple Prayer. You don't have to be in a church or any other "religious place." Right here at your computer is fine.
Pray this prayer...
Dear God, I know that Jesus is Your son, and that He died on the cross to save me from my sins. I am willing to turn away from my sins and my current lifestyle, and surrender my life to You. Thank You for saving me!

In Jesus' name,
Amen
There is nothing special in these words, it is in the sincerity of your heart on how you prayed them, and what you do now. If you prayed this prayer, your first step of evidence is giving Jesus control of your life and identifying with Him. The Bible says in Matthew 10:32-33, "Whoever acknowledges me before men, I will also acknowledge him before my Father in heaven. But whoever disowns me before men, I will disown him before my Father in heaven." This verse says that we are to publicly admit that we are a child of Christ. So let someone know! If I can be of any help, let me know.

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. (Romans 3:23, NKJV)
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 6:23, NKJV)
For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.(Ephesians 2:8-9, NKJV)
Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. (John 14:6, NKJV)
For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit (1 Peter 3:18, NKJV)
Because the law brings about wrath; for where there is no law there is no transgression. (Romans 4:15, NKJV)
